Roses to a Richmond company for helping figure skaters in their quest for Olympic medals in Sochi, Russia. Skates U.S. on West Eaton Pike fits and builds skates for three-time world champion Patrick Chan of Canada’s Olympic team, U.S. national champion Gracie Gold and others. President David Ripp has a long history in skating. His grandfather, Charles Snyder, had a skate shop in Dayton, Ohio, and built skates for Ripp’s mother, a competitive roller skater. He also met his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Duning Ripp of Richmond, while the two were roller skating in Dayton. Skates U.S. became the exclusive United States importer and distributor for Edea and has six full-time employees, including the Ripps.
