Why
We think differently. We start with the skater and design for performance. Edea means...
Innovation, Italian style, and modern craftmanship are the essence of EDEA and is part of every skate they make. Edea is not owned by a larger company with figure skating boots as a line on an accountant’s sheet.
Skating is the family legacy.
Their grandfather garnered a reputation for making quality shoes. The next generations of the family have built on this excellence. Infused with this passion, Sabrina Merlo started her own company with its unique philosophy in search of skating perfection.
Skaters are always moving, pushing the art of what is possible. Each skater’s spins, twizzles and jumps are research, development, and testing for Edea. Listening to feedback and new thinking means the impossible is just an idea away.
The boot for Skating is a technical tool, hence the fitting must be very accurate. The correct size boot assures the comfort and enhances the Skating Performance. Your best option for finding your correct size is to be assisted by your local Authorized Skates US Dealer.
EDEA is a stock boot that can be Custom Shaped to your feet. The boot’s anatomic shape and memory foam are designed for skating comfort and a short break in time. This is where a trained Skates U.S. dealer for EDEA can be of the most benefit.
Choosing the right boot
Understanding the importance of proper booting is vital to your performance and the health of your Edea boots. Choosing the correct model boot is as important as size and fit in the career of a skater.
The following are important points of proper boot selection- understanding of the impact of boot selection early in a skater’s development is critical.
Read on for advice to choose the boot model best for you. We understand that every skater is different, so for any questions specific to your skating journey, we recommend consulting your local Edea dealer.
EDEA MODELS
Edea offers nine boot models ranging in stiffness from 40 to 95. This allows the progression of strength and skill to match the proper boot model and allows the skater to achieve the best results.
Rumor has it “Edeas won’t fit (fill in the blank) feet.”
YOUNG SKATERS BOOT SELECTION
Younger skaters should start in softer boots. The goal of all coaches, parents, and skaters should be to build a strong foundation for the skater. Core strength, leg strength, and most importantly ankle strength must be focused on as importantly as technique and process. Softer boots allow for building ankle strength and corrective control. Corrective control is the ability of the skater to compensate for a technically imperfect landing with ankle movement. When corrective control is lost, a skater that was landing jumps in a softer boot finds themselves falling in a boot that is too stiff to allow ankle movement. A skater must EARN the next model and should not be prematurely promoted to a stiffer boot.
OLDER/LARGER SKATER BOOT SELECTION
Determination of initial boot stiffness depends on several factors. Age, size, skill, and skating discipline.
› Older, smaller beginner skaters may start with a stiffer midrange boot to provide ankle support.
› Larger beginner skaters will need a midrange to stiff boot to provide proper ankle support and security.
WHEN TO MOVE UP IN STIFFNESS
Provided that the boots are correctly sized, fitted, and properly laced, when a skater breaks down their boots quickly after their skating level has increased or they have grown larger, then the skater may move up levels to the next stiffer boot model.

It all starts by lacing the Edea way
Contrary to traditional leather ice skating boots, Edea boots have been designed with a lacing system that provides exceptional stability and flexibility. Unlike the traditional lacing method of strangling around the top of the ankle, the Edea lacing system allows the tongue to bend instead of the boot. During this action, the laces pull the sides of the boots in providing proper ankle support. This is achieved by using specific laces and lacing technique. Edea laces are specifically designed to lock and flex in coordination with the boot’s tongue.
Following these steps will help with the performance and longevity of your Edea boots.
When lacing the boots for the first time, make sure you are lacing from the outside to the inside. Lace flat, without twisting. This will ensure the envelope closes and will allow the mechanics of the laces and tongue to work together for support and flexibility. Make sure to run the last laces, before the hooks, through the tongue tabs. This will insure proper alignment of the tongue. Only use Edea laces in your Edea boots!
Begin lacing from the toe for comfort. Laces should get tighter towards the instep, with the tightest being the top set of holes and the bottom set of hooks. Hooks should be laced around the top providing a 360° lock.
With the bottom set of hooks being the tightest, the next set of hooks gets looser and the top set of hooks loose enough for two or three fingers to fit between the tongue and your shin. While bending, the tongue and lace system will provide great flexibility while the sides of the boot maintain their strength for proper support. If you prefer a tighter feel around the top, Edea Lace Straps can be used. If you have excess laces, do not double lace the top hooks. Go back down to the second set of hooks and finish tying.
Each time you remove your boots the laces must be loosened. Be sure to keep the laces flat and free from twists. Loosen the laces all the way down. Ensure you have loosened the tension at the last holes to prevent narrowing your boots.
Install Edea Storage Straps with the tongue straight to maintain the boot’s shape. An Edea Lace Puller makes undoing the boot easier, no broken nails and no damaged boots.
To further the life of your Edea boots, remember to also allow the boots to dry properly. An Edea boot needs ventilation to dry properly. Store your boots outside of your skate bag in a cool dry place. Use of the Edea Odor & Moisture Absorbers will help keep your boots fresh and in proper skating condition.
